Dear Howell County Democrats and Friends,
Greetings from your 2010 club president!
I am writing to remind you that our first meeting will be in
FEBRUARY this year, as we transition to an every-other-month
meeting schedule.
We will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the even months at 6:30
PM.
We'll meet in Mountain View in February and August; in
Willow Springs in April and October; and in West Plains in June and
December.
February will be our planning meeting for the year.
I hope you'll begin thinking of ways we can be more
effective in conveying the message of the Democratic ideals to
voters in our county.
This is an election year and we plan to be active on behalf
of Robin Carnahan who is running for US Senator, and also for Tommy
Sowers, our excellent candidate for the 8th Congressional District
seat.
Tommy is an Iraq War veteran and a native of Rolla. He spoke
at our rally last year and you can meet him again at our February
meeting.
We'll do all we can to introduce him to Howell
County voters. I am convinced they'll like what they see!
Even if you cannot come to meetings, it is important to stay
in contact and add your voice when it matters.
A case in point: Last year we worked with the local
organization, Center for Community Engagement, to make a presence at
Senator Claire McCaskill's town hall meeting about health care
reform. We made many creative signs the day before, and on the
morning of the meeting, a dozen of us stood outside the West Plains
Civic Center holding them high. The media loved it and,
consequently, we were interviewed generously and made an impact on
the tone of the debate in Howell County. I also think that we gave
the Senator some much needed support.
Speaking of support, fewer meetings will mean fewer times
to pass the hat for operating funds.
Our expenses are relatively small, but we must raise money
for our rally every year, plus website work, and printed materials
and mailings.
I am asking every one who
can afford it to send a check to our post office box 1631, West
Plains, MO 65775.
Also, please let your Democratic friends who are
without email know about our meetings and events, and ask those
with computers to contact me at
terrymoore@dishmail.net
if they would like to be on our email list.
Thank you for visiting
our website. I encourage you to give us your ideas on ways to
make it more useful.
We are fortunate to have a new website director, Ed
Drapkin, who is eager to improve it.
Here's to a healthy and happy new year.
I look forward to working with all of you who share our
ideals of liberty and justice for all.
Sincerely,
Terry Moore
